Schultz Gift Will Create Lasting Memorial
As a public liberal arts college, Morris welcomes students from all over—including its own backyard.
Students like Phillip Schultz, who was born and raised on a farm 20 miles south of Morris and attended the West Central School of Agriculture '62 and UMN Morris, then went on to earn his electrical engineering '67 and master of science '68 degrees from the UMN Institute of Technology.
Now Phillip and his wife, Susie, have planned a gift from their estate to create the Scott Schultz Memorial Scholarship to help encourage rural students toward similar paths. The award honors Phillip's late son, Scott, whose memory will live on in the dreams and discoveries of students who attend this college thanks to the scholarship bearing his name.
"UMN Morris provided a springboard in our lives, and we want to encourage more students to attend UMN Morris to initiate their study of science and engineering, with the ultimate intent to foster new and innovative approaches to science and engineering, to improve the future of our country and the world."
